The Mercedes Selekta typewriter, produced around 1938 by Mercedes Buromaschinen Werke AG in Berlin, Germany.
This is a portable machine originally stored in a wooden case, though only the base of the case remains. The typewriter is made of glossy black lacquered metal. It features a German keyboard with four rows and dual Shift keys on each side labeled “UM,” along with nine numeric keys and additional function keys.
On both sides of the type basket, there is a diamond-shaped emblem with the initials "MB," representing the machine's brand name. The type basket also includes compartments for ink ribbon spools, with sliding covers on each side for easy access. Paper is inserted behind the top roller and advanced by turning the knobs on either side of the roller.
