From scythe to horse powered reaping

The apparatus is equipped with horizontally revolving wooden racks that move the hay to the cutting blades, from there to a platform and finally forming windrows.

This reaper-windrower was developed by McCormick (USA) in the first half of the 19th century. The machine took the place of the commonly practiced manual hay harvesting using sickles or scythes. The reaper was initially powered by horses and later by a tractor.
